Preservenergy Research Project
In trying to understand people’s behaviors towards energy consumption, we engaged users and experts in various fields. Using a card sort method to encourage conversation about the relevant topics, we drilled down to the fundamental ways in which people consume and feel about energy. The insights gained were embedded into the preservenergy products.

01 Design Research

Starbucks Research
Understanding how people consumed coffee was an important part of the design. Using interview methods like laddering, we were able to get down to the unmet desires and emotions. Analyzing the research using tools such as the KJ Method helped us detect patterns that informed the design process.

02 Tangible Design

Reboot Record Player
A record player designed for the iPod generation. Engineered from the remains of an old record player and made to work in an enclosure 20% of the original size. The player features an in-built pre amplifier so that an audio output can be connected directly to the player with a 3.5mm jack.

02 Tangible Design

Preservenergy Light Switch
A light switch that is designed to help you reduce your energy consumption at home. Designed to intelligently control the lights in your house and provide you passive feedback about your consumption through the e-ink display.

02 Tangible Design

Armadillo Helmet Case
Two wheelers are huge in countries like India. With that comes a whole lot of helmets that people need to keep safe after they arrive at their destination. Armadillo is designed to mount onto the rear of a motorbike, and fan out to protect the helmet when you leave your bike. The parts were designed for manufacturing cutting down the production cost to almost 1/8th.

PLAY! Learning Platform
A learning platform designed to encourage high school students to become centers of knowledge exchange. A research project in the USC Annenberg Innovation Lab, PLAY! was designed to incorporate the tenets of new media literacies as developed by the researchers. My job was to translate abstract concepts into tangible designs that could be deployed and tested.

A-Rix Meter iPhone Application
Trusting an auto rickshaw’s meter in India isn’t the easiest thing to do. This meter was designed to be the meter that you carry in your pocket. I designed and developed the app for the iOS platform. Click here to download.

03 Digital Design

Zleep iPhone Application
Designed to be a personal sleep coach in your pocket, the application tracks your sleep patterns and recommends you ways to improve your sleep. Part of the Zleep ecosystem in response to the brief to “give Americans a better night’s sleep”.

04 Systems & Business

Preservenergy: Future of Energy Consumption
“In a future where people will generate their own energy and trade the surplus, we want to be the ones to create the software platform that enables this new currency. And we are going to start with a light switch.” This was the crux of the pitch that was delivered for the thesis project. We envisioned a future and designed the steps to get there.

KPCC+ Growth Strategy
Our local public radio station was facing a unique problem - their donor base was getting older, new technologies threatened their legacy broadcasting and they wanted to engage the younger population. After interviewing key stakeholders, we realized that KPCC is in the loyalty business, pushing people along the listener chain. We designed a multi pronged strategy that created new opportunities for listeners to meet and engage with the local community.

SHAIR-ing the Skies
The private air travel market is not tapped to its full potential. Seats and sometimes full aircraft run empty causing prices to be sky-high. Tasked with disrupting the air travel sector, we designed a system around selling empty seats on private aircraft to commercial business travelers. An online service called Credo was also devised to ratify the people bidding for the seat.

05 Storytelling

The Kickstarter Story
A visual case study of the disruptive business model of Kickstarter. The goal was to describe how kickstarter works and give an idea of what it takes to make a successful fundraising campaign.

05 Storytelling

Preservenergy Film
Created in collaboration with Vivek Ramanujam, this cheesy infomercial style video was created to communicate the value of installing the preservenergy light switch and outlet in your home. (vimeo link coming soon)

05 Storytelling

KPCC+ User Scenario
To communicate the various components of the solution proposed by the team for the future of our local public radio station, we created a storyboard to portray a scenario for the station in the future. Shot on location at the radio station, we used real on-air personalities to make the scenario more relatable.
